At the southwestern part of the Peloponnese, next to the village of Mavromati, lies ancient Messene, a city with significant historical presence. Excavations began in the area in 1895, and have been on-going since, having brought to light a plethora of findings and buildings, which testify to the great expanse, and also significance of this city in antiquity.
